Men’s public bathroom etiquette might be unwritten, but everyone knows the rules. If possible, always leave at least one free urinal between you and anyone else, keep your eyes forward when you pee, avoid eye contact, and, unless it’s absolutely necessary, no talking.
One British guy broke that last commandment by making an extremely rude comment, only to be immediately visited by karma and end up in a disgusting conundrum. As recounted on X by comedian Stuart Laws, he was innocently drying his hands when another man walked in while talking loudly on the phone.

Annoyed by the sound of the hand dryer, the man brayed down the line “some idiot’s using the hand dryer in here”. Laws then heard a “loud bang” and turned to see the man had accidentally dropped his phone straight into the urinal, drenching his prized possession in his bodily waste and forcing him to scrabble around in the filthy trough.
Instant karma
It’s always satisfying when consequences arrive pretty much instantaneously and perhaps as this individual miserably applies toilet tissue to dry out his wet phone, he’ll reflect on his actions. After all, being annoyed at a hand dryer making noise in a public bathroom is absurd, like getting upset at an elevator for making a ding sound as you arrive on your floor.
All that said, retrieving a cellphone from a toilet is, sadly, an experience many of you will be familiar with. I’m holding my hand up and admitting I’ve done it myself and, though I was thankful that the waterproofing held up and the phone continued to function, I never quite felt like that handset was ever clean again and replaced it soon afterwards.
Replies loved the schadenfreude of this guy getting his comeuppance: “this made my day”, “beautiful”, “seems you were having a pint with Karma”, and “God punishes small sins quickly. Others point out the irony that, to dry off his phone, the man in question would almost certainly have the use the hand dryer for an extended period, thus having to hear it for much longer than usual.
So, here’s hoping this rude individual learns from this quick lesson and every time he puts his soiled phone to his ear and gets a faint whiff of ammonia and uric acid to remind him not to be a jerk in the future.
