‘It was incredible, challenging, and a dream come true’: Jeremy Allen White reveals what it was like becoming Bruce Springsteen for new biopic

From Chicago kitchens to Nebraska studios.

20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, showing Jeremy Allen White’s transformation into the legendary rock star Bruce Springsteen. The film, set to release in theaters on October 24, focuses on the creation of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska.

According to People, the trailer reveals White, known for his role in The Bear, performing Springsteen’s classic hit Born To Run and recording music in a home setting. The film also features Paul Walter Hauser as Springsteen’s guitar tech and Jeremy Strong as manager Jon Landau, who works to convince Columbia Records executives to release the stripped-down album.

At CinemaCon in April, White spoke about his experience playing the iconic musician, saying “it was incredible, challenging and a dream come true.” He also mentioned having Springsteen’s blessing for the project and highlighted how the film explores a crucial moment in the musician’s life.

How the movie shows Springsteen’s journey from bedroom recordings to stardom

The biopic tells the story of Springsteen during a pivotal time in his career, as he recorded Nebraska on a 4-track recorder in his New Jersey bedroom. The film explores the musician’s struggle to balance his rising fame with his personal history and childhood memories.

Scott Cooper directs the film, which is based on Warren Zanes’ book of the same name. The cast includes several notable actors such as Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz.

During the filming in fall 2024 and early 2025, Springsteen himself made multiple visits to the set. He was photographed sharing a hug with White and also met with Matthew Anthony Pellicano, who plays a young version of Springsteen in the movie.

The film aims to capture the raw and haunting nature of the Nebraska album, which has become one of Springsteen’s most respected works. The story focuses on his journey as a young musician dealing with the pressures of impending global superstardom while creating what would become a landmark acoustic record.
