The upsetting return of a ‘cold and overt betrayal’ to end the war between Prince William and Prince Harry

William and Harry might finally agree on something.

For the first time in years we could see Prince William and Prince Harry agreeing on something. A new “bombshell” memoir from a former butler for Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana is set to release later this year and is said to be “deeply personal and intimate.”

The royal family are a very private bunch. Discretion is key which is why Harry has found himself completely cut off from his family in recent years. But it turns out the Duke of Sussex isn’t the only one willing to spill some royal tea. Ex-royal staff member, Paul Burrell, is set to release a book covering his time working for the palace this September.

What will be in Paul’s book?

Paul has actually released a number of books about the royal family. His first memoir, A Royal Duty, was published in 2003 and was met with outrage from the royal family at the time, particularly Prince William and Prince Harry. The new memoir will supposedly cover several untold stories from Burrell’s time behind palace walls.

The book will also apparently delve into Charles and Diana’s marriage, covering the breakdown of their relationship. On top of that it will provide insight into Burrell’s relationship with the two young princes. For anyone interested in the inner workings of the royal family this sounds like a must read, but for the royal family themselves this sounds like a PR nightmare.

What will Harry and William think?

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes that it is unlikely either William or Harry will approve the book. Speaking to Express.co.uk he claimed that they are likely to see it as an “overt betrayal” like Burrell’s first memoir.

“When Paul Burrell published his first memoir, A Royal Duty, Princes William and Harry issued a joint statement calling it “a cold and overt betrayal”. He refused to apologise.”

Fitzwilliams went on to speculate that given how “estranged” the two princes are nowadays “It is not possible to imagine a joint reply from [the] brothers.” But either way, both will likely agree with each other on this one. When Burrell released his first book William and Harry did release a joint statement which was reported on via The Guardian.

“We cannot believe that Paul, who was entrusted with so much, could abuse his position in such a cold and overt betrayal. It was not only deeply painful for the two of us but also for everyone else affected and it would mortify our mother if she were alive today.”

Prince Harry has since gone on to publicly speak about his experiences within the royal family, he even released his own tell-all memoir back in 2023. However, he has recently expressed a wish for reconciliation with his father and older brother. It’s not looking likely at the moment as the rift between William and Harry is so large. But this upcoming memoir could see them united at least in spirit against Paul Burrell.
