Barbra Streisand has called out Donald Trump and his miserable band of MAGA buddies for ditching their principles now that they are in power.
The Republican party is on the verge of pushing through a domestic policy legislation that adds a $5 trillion increase to the national debt limit while also allowing $4 trillion in tax cuts. Not only has this approach been criticized by financial experts across the country, but it goes against literally everything the Republican party were preaching just last year.
Barbra Streisand calls out Trump’s hypocrisy
Taking to Bluesky, the Hollywood star shared an article drawing attention to the Republican hypocrisy. Streisand summed up the sentiment of the article perfectly, writing, “When Republicans are in power, the deficit doesn’t matter, only tax cuts for the wealthy do. Then when they are out of power, suddenly it is all important.”
According to the New York Times article shared by Streisand, the Republican party has warned about the government’s over reliance on borrowed money. In the past, when the debt limit has been raised, Republicans have called for the increase to be paired with spending reductions.
But it really took almost no time at all for Republicans to do a complete 180. Now that Trump’s party is pushing for an increase in the debt ceiling, they’re actually increasing their spending with the tax cuts which will cost $4 billion. It’s difficult to see how any of this will help average Americans who are still facing rising grocery costs and general price increases in goods everywhere.
Streisand’s followers heavily agreed with her on the matter with one individual writing, “The hypocrisy “stinks to high heaven.”” Another added, “Trump is an absolute disgrace.”
This isn’t surprising for Trump
Streisand has always been clear in her disdain for Donald Trump and his MAGA buddies, even before he won the election last year the A star is Born actress was calling him out on his BS. She’s only gotten louder since the sweaty-Cheeto man became the 47th president. Like the rest of us, she no doubt saw this move coming. Trump’s Republican party only pretends to care about the citizens of America when they’re not in power, as soon as they have the ability to actually do some good they fall right back into their old selfish habits.
Much of Trump’s campaign centred around the promise of lowering the price of things like eggs, in fact, many who voted him in will likely tell you that was their main motivation for voting Republican. But since he’s taken office he’s only really made things worse for most Americans, be it the tariffs or the ICE raids, the country feels like it’s burning at the moment, and Republicans are about the throw gasoline on the fire.
