The Trump regime’s pro-death credentials are impeccable. Secretary of Health RFK Jr is busily ushering in a bold new second golden age for measles, Krisi Noem at the Department of Homeland Security is sending would-be immigrants to their deaths in Africa, and now, impressively, Federal Drug Administration head Marty Makary wants to snatch away insulin from diabetics and hand them a recipe book.
His comments came on Fox News’ Sunday Futures, on which Makary argued that the traditional method of using insulin to regulate blood sugar levels is old-fashioned and boring, and the condition could better be treated with mandatory government cooking classes to show diabetics where they’ve been screwing up in the kitchen:
“Maybe we need to treat more diabetes with cooking classes, not just throwing insulin at people. You know, scientists have been waving the flag for years, saying you’ve got to look at this body of scientific data, and the modern medical establishment really has been disconnected.”
Makary claims we’re “putting every kid on Ozempic”

About 4000 prescriptions were issued in 2023 for those ages 12-17
He says we’re “throwing insulin at people” who should have cooking classes

Those of you with longer memories might remember the outraged fury from Republicans when Michelle Obama advocated healthy eating programmes that included cookery classes a decade or so ago. Isn’t it just fascinating how the times change?
Malpractice
Anyway, doctors are horrified that Makary seems to think giving someone cookery classes will beat diabetes. Dr. Nisha Patel on X says this idea “isn’t lifestyle medicine, that’s malpractice” and that “Slashing SNAP and Medicaid while telling people to ‘just cook at home.’ You can’t cut support and expect behavior change. That’s not realistic.”
All this said, to be fair to Makary, there really is a role the government can play in battling diabetes through diet. But those policies are extremely un-MAGA, like mandatory sugar taxes on junk food, restrictions on soda portion size, planning laws that restrict the number of fast-food restaurants in neighborhoods, and eradicating ‘food deserts’ in low-income communities.
Unfortunately, as MAGA has repeatedly underlined, all these actual, workable solutions are communism. What a shame. Sadly for diabetics, it looks like the future is no cooking classes, worse food, and more expensive insulin. Enjoy your feet while you’ve got ’em!
